The Welsh Mountain Zoo is now home to a SPLASH-TASTIC enclosure for our Californian Sea Lions. All of them enjoy their new ultra-modern home where they have plenty of room to show off with their new tricks!
The fabulous new pool and activity area covers 300 square meters and is home to one of our most exciting and popular displays. Sea Lions Rock contains half a million liters of water and boasts an impressive underwater viewing facility where all our visitors can watch the sealions enjoying their large swimming area.
Our new facility enables the pool water to be recycled and includes special ramps for our disabled visitors.
Our Californian Sea Lions include Cousteau, Maria, Spray, Rooney and Casper and they all love to dive and dip, swim and play at Sea Lions Rock!
You can watch our Sea Lions taking part in daily exercise sessions where they respond to their keeper with water sports, flipper inspections and ball skills.
Sea Lions Rock was opened in April 2006 by Rhodri Morgan AM, who fed a whole bucket load of fish to one hungry 40 stone Sea Lion and said “it is a great pleasure to be here to announce the opening of this wonderful attraction”.
