Baby Goat Loves Playing with the Kids at the Welsh Mountain Zoo

3 week old Welsh mountain goat, Scooby was rescued by his keeper Clare Taylor after being abandoned by his mother Shelly. Now weighting 7lb the playful Goat and keeper Clare have formed an extraordinary friendship. Scooby loves to follow Clare around the Zoo as she does her morning bird feed and both enjoy sitting together in the spring sunshine having a spot of lunch.

Staff at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay are delighted at the progress made by the Welsh Mountain Goat. When Scooby was rejected by the other goats, Clare immediately began hand rearing him and for the first week, the young kid was monitored at the Zoo and was taken home in the evenings where Clare fed him every 2 hours throughout the night. Scooby stayed in a specially designed basket, prepared by the keepers which contained soft blankets, a hot water bottle and the softest blankets.

Scooby is continuing to grow in both size and confidence and on May Day visitors to the Welsh Mountain Zoo can meet Scooby, as he will officially become a resident at the Children’s Farm. Scooby has already had a trial session at the Children’s Farm and thoroughly enjoyed the hour playing with a young visitor and Sage the Turkey. In fact, he was so tired from all the excitement that he slept in the sunshine for the rest of the afternoon.

Clare Taylor said ‘it is such a delight to hand rear an animal that would otherwise have died without me. He has such a great character and I am really looking forward to seeing Scooby play with the Children over the May Bank Holiday’.
