Welsh Mountain Zoo

Male Meerkat, Morgan

Latest Arrivals

Visitors to the Welsh Mountain Zoo will be given the opportunity to “compare the Meerkats” for the very first time with the exciting arrival of a pair of these cute creatures at the Zoo.  They are the first Meerkats in North Wales and will be housed in a brand new, custom-built enclosure, which they will soon be sharing with the Zoo’s porcupines.  Keepers at the Welsh Mountain Zoo are thrilled about the new arrivals and expect that the pair will be the start of a growing family.

Named Morgan and Megan the Meerkats will be introduced to Zoo visitors at the start of the October half-term holidays and are expected to quickly become firm favourites given the current quirky television advertising campaign.

These popular mammals are members of the mongoose family, originating in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa. They have a life-span of around 12-15 years and live in ‘gangs’ or ‘clans’ of about 20 although families can reach around 50 members.
