We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting this year’s Research Conference in beautiful North Wales from 8th – 10th July. Our icebreaker will take place on the evening of 8th of July at the multi award winning artisan venue, 3rd Space, in the stunning coastal town of Llandudno. The main conference with presentations will be held at the purpose-built conference centre, Venue Cymru from 9th to 10th July. Sea Lion presentations and an evening of Zoo tours will also precede a three-course conference dinner at the Welsh Mountain Zoo on 9th July.
- Kat Jones, Bangor University who will discuss big data, undergrads and zoo research opportunities.
- Emma Mellor, University of Bristol whose talk will focus on early career zoo research.
Workshop – ‘Social network methods and questions: how do we design studies and collect data to answer questions relating to social behaviour?’
Panel Discussion – ‘how to make zoo research happen and get it published’.
We are also inviting contributions from current zoo professionals and academics and encourage keepers and students to submit an abstract.

Please note that capacity is limited to a maximum of 120 delegates so we recommend early booking to avoid disappointment.
We do not offer day rate fees for our conference.
Thinking of presenting at the BIAZA Research Conference 2019? Well now’s your chance!
We welcome abstract submissions from zoo professionals and academics, we encourage keepers and students to submit an abstract. This year there are three presentation types:
- Oral Presentation (12 minutes including questions)
- Speed Presentations (6 minutes, 6 slides, no questions)
- or a Poster Presentation (A2 Landscape).

We are providing 1 bus with capacity of 70 round trip from Venue Cymru to Welsh Mountain Zoo. If you travel to the Zoo using your own transport but wish to leave it on site overnight, a taxi can be ordered to collect you from the exit drive. Please note any vehicle left on the Zoo premises will be at the owner’s risk.
