W.I.L.D. Science Sessions

Join us from the 25th January for some fun, practical, W.I.L.D Science sessions from home! These informal sessions will be suitable for a wide range of ages, from 6 upwards. Older children, 13+, could also join for revision. Each session is 30 minutes long, adult supervision is required throughout.

Monday 25th January 2:30pm

This session will be focused on Geckos. Science covered includes static electricity, friction, atoms and attraction.

Please have a blown-up balloon ready.


Wednesday 27th January 2:30pm

This session will be focused on Snakes. Science covered includes rainbows and infrared (the electromagnetic spectrum) and cold vs. warm blooded animals.

Please bring a mobile phone with a camera and torch, a TV remote, a wine glass with water and piece of white paper.


Friday 29th January 2:30pm

This session will be focused on the Thorny Devil. Science covered will included the cohesion and adhesion of water, polarity, atoms and attraction.

Please bring two cups/mugs, water and a piece of kitchen roll.


Monday 1st February 4pm

This session will be about turtles! We will be learning about magnets and the earth’s magnetic field up to key stage 3 level and beyond! Suitable for KS1& 2 learners too.

Please bring a magnet, bowl of water, strip of metal e.g. paperclip or needle and something to float your needle on e.g. card, cork, bottle cap or a leaf!


Wednesday 3rd February 4pm

This session will be about flying snakes! We will be learning about forces, Newton’s 1st law, gravity and air resistance.

Please bring with you some plastic bags or bin bags, string & two identical plastic bottles.


Friday 5th February 4pm

This session will be about octopus! We will be learning about forces and Newton’s 3rd Law.

Please bring with you a plastic bottle & enough water to be able to submerge your bottle e.g., a large bowl, box, or even a sink or bath!

Monday 8th February 4pm

This session will be about penguins! We will be learning about the properties of oil and water, atoms, molecules and polarity. We will be learning about penguins and making lava lamps!

Tuesday 9th February 4pm

This session will be about snails! We will be learning about non- Newtonian fluids. We will be learning about snails and making slime!

Monday 15th February 4pm

This session will be about woodlice! We will be learning about surface area and diffusion. We will be learning about and meeting some woodlice and carrying out a water experiment.


Monday 16th February 4pm

This session will be about cats! We will be learning about light, reflection and eyes. We will be learning about felines and carrying out an experiment with light.
