NEW ARRIVAL SPELLS LOVE!

We have welcomed a new female Margay, signaling the possibility of love ahead of Valentine’s Day!
Margy, our new female, is settling well into her new home with potential beau, Gary, and the two have been seen getting up close and personal in recent days!
Margy has traveled across land and seas to reach her new home here at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, from her former residence at Randers Zoo in Denmark. The pair were recognised as a promising breeding pair as part of the European Endangered Species Programme.
Margy and Gary where first introduced in early January, and were encouraged to mix during the day, allowing our keepers to closely observe them, and then separated at night.
Charlotte Dykes, Marketing Manager of the Welsh Mountain Zoo explained: “We work with a wide network of Zoo’s across the globe and together re-home animals where we see the potential for breeding, with the broader intention of supporting conservation. The Margay is considered as being ‘under threat’ within their natural habitat and so it's important that we encourage breeding through potential couplings.
“We’ve been keeping a close eye on the pair and they seem to be very comfortable and relaxed around each other. They are displaying all of the behaviours that we would like to see for a potential couple and hope to see this closeness continues with kittens on the way in the not-too-distant future!”
