IUCN Listing: Critically Endangered

The Bactrian Camel, native to the deserts of Mongolia and China, is a remarkable creature known for its distinctive two humps that store fat. This amazing adaptation allows this species to travel days without food or water in harsh desert conditions. Sadly, this unique species is critically endangered due to threats such as hunting, habitat loss, increased predation and human persecution. With a life expectancy of up to 40 years in the wild and even longer in zoos, these camels play an important role in their ecosystem.
