Not at a risk of becoming extinct in the wild

There are 36 species of amazon parrot and here at the zoo we care for 3 of these. The Yellow Crowned Amazon (Amazona ochrocephala), Blue Fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva) and Orange Winged Amazon (Amazona amazonica). All species grow to between 30-50cm and can be found in Central or South America and the Caribbean islands. Amazon parrots are predominantly green in colour to help them to camouflage into their forest home but have different coloured patches on their wings and head depending on the species.
