With your support, we believe our contributions to conservation research can help prevent the loss of endangered species and encourage others to join us in preserving the planet’s incredible biodiversity.

IUCN Listing: Least Concern

The Common Emu is the second tallest bird in the world, found across most of Australia’s grasslands and woodlands. Weighing up to 60 kg, it’s a fast runner and a curious forager. Sadly, two other emu species were hunted to extinction, leaving this as the only one left. Emus eat a mix of plants, insects, and even dung. They live around 5–10 years in the wild, and up to 20 years in zoos. They travel in groups called mobs and are active during the day. Although not endangered, they still face threats from humans.
