A group of over 100 children and adults, including young people with Learning Disabilities age 25 and under along with their families, are set to enjoy a fun-packed, educational day out at the Welsh Mountain Zoo – National Zoo of Wales on Monday 18th August.
Conwy Connect enjoy an ongoing partnership with the Welsh Mountain Zoo to help ensure that visits are as inclusive and accessible as possible. During this visit, there are several optional activities to enrich the experience for members including a Wheelchair-Friendly Guided Walk where a guide will lead an accessible route around the Zoo, sharing facts and information about the animals. The walk will include sensory elements such as feathers and textures for participants to touch and explore.
Other activities include a Flamingo Talk where members can attend a dedicated talk to learn more about flamingos in an engaging and supportive environment, as well as a Habitat Workshop during which the Zoo’s education team will host a hands-on session exploring animal habitats, in an interactive and accessible way.
All sessions are optional – participants are welcome to explore the zoo at their own pace
Charitable organisation, Conwy Connect, work with individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and carers, offering support, information, training and opportunities to take part in accessible activities. Gemma Gale of Conwy Connect said: “We’re incredibly grateful to have such a dedicated organisation like the Welsh Mountain Zoo right on our doorstep — one that consistently rises to the challenge of making the Zoo a welcoming, inclusive, and disability-friendly space. They always take our feedback on board, and their ongoing willingness to listen, adapt and collaborate means each visit gets better and more inclusive every time.”
Alexandra Davies, Education Manager at the Welsh Mountain Zoo added: “We’re incredibly pleased to be able to work so closely with Conwy Connect, a brilliant charity that deliver amazing work for young people and their families across Conwy. We have a dedicated education team here at the Zoo and so are able to deliver workshops, events and full days such as this, catered to the very specific needs of each group. We’re looking forward to once again welcoming Conwy Connect for an enjoyable and enriching day here at the Zoo.”
