Remembering Henry (Harry) Douglas Roberts: A lasting legacy at the Welsh Mountain Zoo

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is honoured to share a tribute to Harry Roberts, a former trustee and long-standing supporter of the Zoo.

Harry shared a special connection with the Welsh Mountain Zoo, having been a board member here and played a role in its development over eight years. In particular, he was involved in the development of the red panda habitat and the Zoo’s snow leopard enclosure, lasting contributions that continue to be enjoyed by visitors today and provide vital homes for these incredible species.

Following his passing, donations were invited in lieu of flowers to support the Zoo, a reflection of Harry’s passion and the place the Zoo held in his life. Thanks to the generosity of those who knew him, an incredible £1,157.22 has been raised in his memory.

A Living Legacy

In-memory gifts like these play a vital role in supporting the ongoing development of the Zoo, the care of animals who call it home and the conservation projects that the Zoo supports around the world. Every donation makes a tangible difference.

A Tribute from Chris Mitchell – CEO

“Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Harry in person, I have been made aware of his valuable contribution and support that benefitted the zoo over many years. I was saddened to hear of the passing of such a great friend to the zoo, my sympathies go out to his family, and we are very grateful for the very generous donation in Harry’s memory. As we look to develop the zoo in the coming years, we are very grateful to the founding Jackson family and past trustees who created and developed our precious zoo. We have a wonderful heritage that we hope will continue to bring happiness to thousands of visitors whilst helping to save species from extinction. Harry was part of our heritage and helped us be the zoo we are today, thank you Harry, your memory will live on in the zoo.”

Thank You

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Harry’s family and friends for thinking of the Welsh Mountain Zoo at such a difficult time. Their generosity is a wonderful tribute to a life that gave so much, and a powerful way to ensure Harry’s legacy continues.
