From the rocky coasts of Peru and Chile, the Humboldt Penguin may not be as famous as its Antarctic cousins, but it’s just as special. Sleek and slender with a bold black-and-white face, these penguins are full of personality—and each one has a unique call to help them find their mate in a noisy colony. But life in the wild is getting harder. Overfishing is depleting their food, and many get caught in fishing nets or lose their nesting spots to human activity. With only two eggs per clutch, every chick matters.
