IUCN Listing: Least Concern

The Laughing Kookaburra is a large bird from Eastern Australia, known for its unique call that sounds just like laughter. It can grow up to 43 cm long and has a strong beak perfect for catching insects, lizards, mice, small birds and even venomous snakes. These birds live in forests, wetlands, woodlands and even suburban areas. In the wild, they can live up to 15 years, and even longer—up to 20 years—in zoos. Sadly, habitat loss and human interference are factors that negatively impact populations in the wild
