IUCN Listing: Data Deficient

Azara’s Agouti is a shy, squirrel-like animal from South America, found in rainforests of Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Brazil. They sit on their haunches to eat fruits, seeds and nuts, using their paws to hold food just like squirrels! With super strong jaws, they are the only mammal that can crack open a Brazil nut. These daytime explorers live in small groups called mobs and can live up to 20 years in zoos.
