Threat Level: Least Concern

The Red-necked Wallaby, native to the beautiful landscapes of south-eastern Australia and Tasmania, is a charming marsupial recognised for its distinctive reddish fur on its head and back. These fascinating creatures have a short gestation period, after which their tiny joeys make their way to their mother’s pouch to grow for an average of 130 days. While classified as “Least Concern” by the IUCN, they do face threats from pest control and hunting for bushmeat.

In the wild, Red-necked Wallabies can live up to 10 years, and in zoos, they may reach up to 15 years. Found in groups called mobs, they are active during the day, often grazing on grasses and plants.
